System Engineer (Network/System/IA) – Intermediate

Duties:
Typically reports to a senior engineer or manager. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Network:
Reviews, plans, and evaluates network systems performance and architecture. Designs and develops network layouts to support growth and technology advancements. Configures network devices providing LAN connectivity. Troubleshoots network systems and recommends improvements. Provides documentation/project tracking and management reporting. Provides tactical and strategic input on overall network planning and related projects. Performs a variety of tasks.

Must be familiar with both Cisco and Foundry products. Configures and maintains network monitoring software. Has strong experience and understanding of network protocols.

System:
Must be familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, best practices, procedures, and security guidelines. Understands the impact, application, and functions of IDS/IPS and firewall devices. Has advanced understanding and experience with DoD standards and a wide variety of networking protocols. Installs hardware and new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves software and hardware related problems.

Performs system backups and recovery. Understands basic server related requirements to support applications utilizing the network. May provide consultation on complex projects Maintains data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity.

IA:
Must be able to develop, implement, and maintain a secure network environment. Must have in-depth experience with IDS/IPS, firewall, and VPN equipment and configuration. Responsible for adhering to DIACAP requirements, recommending and implementing security changes, identifying vulnerabilities, verifying mitigation procedures, and creating security templates for devices within the computing environment.

Requirements:
Security+, MCSA/MCITP-SA or CCNA, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the IT field of 3-5 years; demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures; relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

IA:
Must have 3-5 years of experience in IA technology or in a related field; CISSP (associate accepted); knowledgeable in security of network and system enterprise configurations.

Clearance:
The candidate must be able to obtain and retain a secret clearance.
